Carlisle United - 11th January 2014

The O's come away with all 3 points with a comfortable victory at home - the first in the league since October

A quick review - I think it's fair to say we won't have many more comfortable victories this season. Carlisle were about as toothless going forward as a geriatric, but even so, they still needed beating. So often in the past Orient have failed to find the cutting edge against weaker opposition, but this is a new type of Orient. The ruthlessness shown in the second half was a joy to behold, not giving Carlisle a sniff of an opportunity to get back in the game and continuing the mauling right up until the final whistle. It made a nice change for one of our players to take a pop at goal from range and actually find the net, rather than it's usual spot of row Z.

There were so many positives it's almost impossible to list them all, but I think the best of all was to see Super Kev back on the scoresheet. Having not scored since the backend of October, were it not for some excellent saves he could easily have been walking off with the matchball.

Man of the match - This could go to any number of players. Cox and Odubajo were a constant threat on the wings and Super Kev was back to his very best. However, as we were informed over the tannoy (I think even the dead were able to hear it), Scott Cuthbert was simply brilliant and fully deserving of his bottle of champagne. Solid in defence and a useful outlet going forward, he more than deserved his goal in the first half. The back four look so comfortable at the moment which has helped Jakupovic (definitely didn't need to look up the spelling) settle in. The fact Jakupovic is yet to actually make a save in his 2 appearances so far says it all.

What next? - Crewe Alexandra. On paper, this should be a formality but as we all know, football isn't played on paper (other footballing clichés are available). If we are to have serious ideas about occupying one of the 2 automatic promotion places come the end of the season then this will be a massive 3 points (there's another). With Mooney and Vincelot close to a return, and Slade still looking to bring in one more striker and all the subsitutes making a very positive impact today, it will be interesting to see who starts the game. If only we could play Carlisle.

Up the O's!
